Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.

Doctors of chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

If you need your DOT medical card we can help. Dr. Chris and Dr. Emily are both FMCSA certified medical examiners and can provide the necessary physical exam to keep you on the road.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration now requires all commercial drivers whose current medical certificate expired on or after May 21, 2014 to be examined by a medical professional listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (National Registry). Providers listed on the National Registry have completed training and successfully passed the exam on the FMCSA’s physical qualification standards. Both Dr. Chris Nelson and Dr. Emily Wentworth at Optimal Chiropractic in Post Falls are listed as a Certified Medical Examiner with the National Registry.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio taping is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. Kinesio tape is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions.

Kinesio tape can be applied in hundreds of ways and has the ability to re-educate the neuromuscular system, reduce pain and inflammation, enhance performance, prevent injury and promote good circulation and healing, and assist in returning the body to function.

Rehabilitation

Functional rehabilitation is an extension of traditional physical therapy. Its purpose is to address various musculoskeletal conditions and restore functionality in cases where functionality has been lost or reduced, such as following a sports-related injury

There are many techniques, exercises and treatments that can be categorized under functional rehabilitation. Optimal Chiropractic utilizes Kinesiotaping, Myofascial Release (soft tissue therapy), and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy is a specific soft-tissue mobilization technique in which the Doctor uses a stainless steel instrument to detect and treat scar tissue and soft tissue fascia tissue restrictions. This gold standard technique uses six stainless steel instruments of different shapes and sizes to fit the body as needed.

Treatment goals and the process of this technique are to first “break up” these adhesions by breaking down the collagen cross-links that have been formed and then to realign them with proper stretching and strengthening.

The technique can be used on muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and on a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions. The instruments enhance our doctors ability to detect fascial adhesions and restrictions and have been clinically proven to achieve quicker and better outcomes in the treatment.
